Ammonite fossil 400 million geologic years old imported from Madagascar. This pair is about 1″ across. Ammonites have been found as large as truck tires.
Quartzsite lies just a few miles over the border from Southern California in Arizona. The major gem and mineral selling season starts here in Quartzsite and moves to Tuscan in February. The Quartzsite Improvement Association (QIA) as been hosting a gem and mineral show now in its 50th year. While the emphasis on Quartzsite by the gem and mineral world may be waning, Quartzsite is still a viable source of quality gem, mineral and lapidary related products for almost all collectors and enthusiasts. Over the years Quartzsite has grown a seasonal tourism trade that caters to snow birds of the RV traveling type with outdoor sales areas that sell almost anything. We have enjoyed the past two weeks camping in our RV rockhounding, seeing friends, and shopping in Quartzsite. Monday we move to the QIA to set-up for the 50th show that starts Wednesday. The execution of all children age two and under has been ordered by the king of this mid-eastern county. A father got word of the plot and used a recent gift of gold to take his young son and wife and escape. The story takes place two thousand years ago. The child is Jesus and the wicked King is Herod. With the continued unrest in the mid eastern countries, radical Islam, and a general disregard for God, we see the world has not changed much. We need our Saviour just as much today as they did back then.
As you celebrate Christmas this year, remember Jesus. They tried to kill him as a toddler, he was killed as an adult, but came back to life. Most people try to kill the idea of Jesus today.
