Dragon Eggs in Nipomo This Weekend

Dragon Egg, Septarian

The dragon’s egg is a concretion of three minerals, forming at the edge of an ancient sea many thousands of years ago.

Today through Sunday we will be here at the Nipimo High School for the 49th gem and mineral show, hosted by the Orcutt gem and mineral society.  Over 50 exhibitors are showing and selling all manner of minerals, rocks and jewelry.

The club hosted a pizza dinner for the exhibitors last night.  Thank you to the Orcutt club. The weather is cool and a much appreciated break.

Saguaro Cactus Graces This Agate Slice

Sherry picks the agate slices, this one from California, then positions the agate and adds the pewter in a way that compliments each other.  No two slices are alike.  Even the reverse of the agate slice can be strikingly different.  Western themed items are popular.  This piece features the iconic Saguaro cactus, found in Arizona.  Hang it in a sunny window and enjoy!

We say good-bye and thank you to Oxnard today and head for the Central Coast for a few days of R & R.  This weekend we will attend the gem and mineral show in Nipomo hosted by the Orcutt club.

We hoe your week is blessed.

Oxnard and Miners

This miner, inside a calcite geode, is loading calcite crystals into an ore cart.

We cut the geode into three pieces.  Then, Sherry added a few pieces of pewter to each, making a mining diorama of sorts.

The Salsa Festival goes on until 7 P.M. tonight.  Fun and exhausting.  We always enjoy meeting people from the community and from afar.
