Less than 100 days away. For many of us, a once-in-a-lifetime event: a total eclipse of the sun. Its coming this summer in August. We have dropped our usual summer schedule of shows and are heading out across the “bread basket” of America to see it. There is still time to plan your summer vacation travels to see this North American spectacular.
Sherry and I chose Nebraska as our viewing site. We have family nearby, want to see some more of our nations wonders, and added some unique summer shows, as well.
This weekend we are at the Show in Yucaipa, one of the few shows that we do locally. Several stages of music, arts, crafts, rides, food and the gem and mineral show – and that is where we are.
This summer we are planning an adventure through the heart of America. We will explore and show in four states, see family and experience a total solar eclipse of the sun on August 21 in Nebraska. More about that in future posts.
Are you ready for adventure this summer? Let us know what you have in store!
Some electrons get excited when struck by ultraviolet light and give off unique colors, called fluorescence. The picture above shows the same minerals in white light and short-wave ultraviolet light. The quality of my camera does not do the color changes justice.
We have been home for a few weeks getting caught up on things and enjoying the unusually warm weather. One project we finished was the new built-in mineral display cabinets – a project we started ten months ago! We were excited to install our UV light for our fluorescent minerals, some pictured here.
This weekend we get back to one of our favorite shows, the Yucaipa Gem and Mineral Show, part of the city-wide Music Festival. The Gem and Mineral show is around the corner of Yucaipa Blvd and Adams Street. The show and festival start Friday evening and run through Sunday. Hope to see you there.
