I hope I find a bug in this amber

“I hope I find a bug in this amber,” the customer remarked as he purchased some rough amber. Fossil tree resin, Amber is considered an organic gemstone and highly treasured in jewelry making. 10 million plus years-old, formed during the Miocene era, this amber comes from Indonesia and is fun to work with or just own a piece for display.

We talked about how finding insects in amber is not common. We discussed making amber jewelry and some earrings for his wife. I did have time while we were in Quartzsite to make some earrings and pendants. He was happy and purchased some amber jewlery for his wife.

Think how surprised I was when he contacted me to declare that he had indeed found a bug in his rough amber! Verified under a microscope at a local college, he sent me the picture here.

Oh, and his wife loved the amber earrings!

Rock Show Starts Today at Tyson Wells, Here in Quartzsite, Arizona

Part of the fun of being in Quartzsite is the “window” shopping. You know; the looking at cool stuff that you could never buy but just dream about. Here, Sherry is standing next to a huge obelisk of blue sodalite. The price is “make offer.” How would we ever get it home?

Today is the official start of the Rock Show, here at Tyson Wells, in Quartzsite, Arizona. Hundreds of vendors, selling almost anything, with the emphasis on rocks, minerals and such for the next ten days. We are here for the entire month.

The show brings people from all over the world. We have already met people visiting from Canada, Mexico, Africa and from all over the United States. And that has been in just a few days!

Tyson Wells has added more vendors, an auction and another food court. 2022 looks to be our best year here, ever. The weather has been mild, and the event is family fun, safe, and outdoors. As we look forward to a fun month of visiting with old friends, making new ones, we wish you the best as we visit with you in person or in spirit. May your New Year be blessed.

Quartzsite: the Moon is for Sale

Selenite Globe Lamp

The moon goddess Selene would be proud of this 5″ sphere of selenite that has been made into a lamp. It sits on a ring of selenite and comes with a long electric cord and bulb. Most pagan cultures worshipped a moon and a sun god. Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, was thought to be wise. Ancients believed selenite, a gypsum mineral, was frozen moon beams and to own a piece would yield wisdom, equal to Selene. Most likely you are already surrounded by a version of this wisdom giving mineral within the walls of your home. The sheetrock of your walls is made from gypsum. Do you feel wiser?

The rock show of Tyson Wells, here in Quartzsite begins on Friday January 7. Pre-sales have been good. While some wholesalers have lamented shipment delays, there is no shortage of things to buy. Fun, safe and outdoors, hope to see you here. And you can even buy a piece of the moon!
