Veterans Win in Quartzsite Hero Program

IMG_5869
Pamela Caskey, Basket Artist (left) and winner, Sherry Harned, hold the basket raffled to benefit the Quartzsite Hero Program.

One person can make a difference.  The Hero Program in Quartzsite, Arizona is a local effort to raise money for projects that benefit our veterans.  One of those making a difference is Pamela Caskey (Pamela.Caskey@gmail.com), raised money for their local Hero Program by raffling a one-of-a-kind basket that she made.  This basket is woven with grasses, includes walnut shells, beads and the center is a metal that reads “THANK YOU FOR SERVING.”  Sherry helped by buying some raffle tickets while we were at the QIA Gem & Mineral show, and SHE WON! Sherry is a veteran herself, 14 years in the United States Air Force.  So, while a veteran won the basket, the veterans win as well, through the Hero Program.

Thank you, Pamela for your donation.  Pamela’s baskets will be displayed and available for purchase at the Death Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Spring Art Show held at the Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley National Park, Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13.  Sherry and I will be there as well.

PS The wildflowers should be awesome this year.

Do Crystals Have Healing Power?

Crystals
Some Quartz type crystals we recently added

“Healing Crystals” is a sign we often see at gem and mineral shows, shops and on the internet.  But can a rock heal?  Ever have heart-burn?  Take a rock, or more exactly, calcium, (think Tums) to sooth the “burn.”  I knew a man who suffered from severe mental illness, and he was an avid rockhound.  He would remind us that Lithium, a strong drug for mental illness treatment, comes from a rock.  It takes great energy for atoms, made of electrons, neutrons and protons, to be held together.  Quartz crystals were used in early radios to receive the radio waves.  There most definitely is power in rocks.  We collect and sell them because they are beautiful.  Today we travel back to California.  We have enjoyed our time here in Quartzsite.  See you next year!
