Over the years I have met many a person that holds firm to their good luck charms and other superstitious beliefs.  Gold prospecting involves a great deal of work and skill.  As a rockhounds, we know that it is not easy to find the good stuff.  Most successful people will tell you that they worked hard to get what they have and did not trust in luck.  Luck is like a gamble – not a sure thing.

Today begins the Gold Show here in Quartzsite.  Setting it all up was hard work for all.  There is still time to make a day of weekend of it.  Hope to see you here.

Gold Show in Quartzsite, No Foolin’

1/4 pound bag of pyrite

“Fool’s Gold” is another name for Iron Pyrite, a mineral made of iron and Sulphur.  Found all over the world, pyrite has “fooled” many a prospector into thinking they have found gold.  Gold panning is one common technique used to “pan” for gold.  Pyrite and gold will shimmer in sunlight.  When moved into shade, the gold will retain its golden color, as the pyrite will not.  Stick a pin into the gold, if it breaks apart it is not gold.

Sherry and I will be in Quartzsite this weekend for the Gold Show, Friday through Sunday.  You won’t be a fool if you joined us.  Many guest speakers and demonstrations throughout the three day show.
