Are dragons real or mythical?

Sherry combined a fossil ammonite and fossil sea biscuit, together with a pewter dragon to create this hanging piece.

He was about 12 years old and commented matter-of-factly to his mother after seeing the pewter dragon in our booth, “Of course, they are not real.”

“Dragons are mentioned in the Bible,” I responded.

The discussion centered around what was real or not and what body of science supports the Bible and mythology, along with the validity of geologic age.  Quite heavy topics for a child of his age.  A thinker he is and somewhat still open minded.  “All mythology has some basis in fact,” I added.

I do believe the Bile is true and one day the body of science and the teachings of the Bible will blend together to reveal truth.  The ability to believe is faith.  I hope you are like this boy and keep and open mind and never tire of learning new things and have faith.

Dragons are a reaility…at least in Sherry’s pewter pieces.  This week the show in Joshua Tree kicks off our seven week tour through the Mojave Desert.  We hope to see you there.

Joshua Tree Show and We’re Getting Ready

Working with your hands brings a great sense of accomplishment, excitement and peace.  It is a blessing for Sherry and I to share these interests together.  We have a lot of fun.

Most of the shows we do are art and/or craft shows for non-profit groups raising money for the arts or other related programs.  The gem and mineral shows are usually hosted by a local gem and mineral society as a fund-raiser, to promote our hobby to the public and provide activities for fellow rockhounds.  We enjoy showing our art and seeing the creativity of others.

The 41st annual gem and mineral show this week at the Joshua Tree Sportsmen’s Club is a big deal for the High Desert.  The event is co-hosted by the High Desert Rockhounds.  This show will feature many artists with handcrafted jewelry and other lapidary related items.  Vendors will also have rough rock, gemstones and a variety of items related to our hobby.  The show runs five days, Wednesday through Sunday, Sept. 28 to Oct. 2.  And, the proceeds go to the local community.  Hope to see you there.

Now in their 41st year, this huge Gem & Mineral Show in Joshua Tree, California gets better every year.  The JT Sportsmen’s Club uses this event as a fundraiser.  Proceeds support the local gem and mineral society as ell as other community projects in the High Desert area.  This would be a great time to visit Joshua Tree National Park, together with the show.  Wednesday through Sunday, Sept 28 to Oct 2.  Find us in spaces 1 & 2, just inside the main gate.  Hope to see you there.
