The Museum of the Fur Trade and Agate Fossil Bed National Monument are stops today, as we leave Martin, South Dakota and head West through Nebraska.  Our visit with our mid-west family comes to a close and our Great Eclipse Trip of 2017 enters the final two weeks.

The breeze picked up and the air became markedly cooler as we moved closer to totality:  that time in the eclipse that the moon totally covers the sun.  Almost as quickly as you could flick a switch, the sky turned dark and the planet Jupiter appeared first.  Day had turned to night and an orange glow, as the just set sun, appeared in all directions.  Night during the day, stars and planets, a chill in the air.  A once-in-a-lifetime event.  It was a perfect moment here in rural Nebraska.

For the first time in the history of the United States a total eclipse will slide across the entire country, from sea to sea.    The last total eclipse in our country swooped the Western United States and up into Canada.  Our eclipse trip will peak tomorrow, August, 21 as we travel into rural Nebraska to witness this great celestial event.  

There is no shortage of news about this event.  Though, it seems that much of the news is focusing on what could go wrong.  We are packing a picnic lunch and, see it or not, will have a great day.
